8" round cake servings, both ways to cut
Serving counts come down to slice size. Cut party-style (1½ × 2 in slice), a 8-inch round yields about 20 servings; cut wedding-style (1 × 2 in slice) it stretches to 24. Both figures assume the classic 4-inch-tall, two-layer cake the Wilton chart is written for — bake it as a taller three- or four-layer cake and it serves roughly half again as many.
Same width, different shape: the 8" square serves 20 party / 32 wedding. The corners matter most in slim wedding cuts — cut wedding-style, a square out-serves the round of the same width on every chart size; party counts run closer and sometimes tie.
